Sowing Seeds of Hope

Tiwala Kids & Communities reaches out to more than 200 children in Legazpi City through our different educational and spiritual programs. Besides coming from poor families, many of these children are victims of neglect, abuse, and exploitation. Without any kind of positive intervention, they face a very bleak future. Here are several ways we are offering true
hope to these children and their families:

Sending Poor Children to School

With the opening of classes in June, Tiwala Kids & Communities began sponsoring 18 full scholars for this academic year. We are grateful to our donors who enable us to extend financial and educational assistance to these children by way of shouldering school expenses and providing school supplies, food, tutorials, and mentoring. Our 18 scholars just finished their first quarter exams and we are happy to let you know that they all did very well! They are also actively participating in school activities such as Nutrition Month and Buwan ng Wika (Language Month).

Enriching the Learning Experience

Tiwala seeks to help children develop a love for learning by offering them resources and opportunities that can make their learning experience enjoyable and fun. For example, our weekend student enrichment classes this semester provide more than 150 children with art resources, activities, and safe spaces for creative expression. Meanwhile, on weekdays, Tiwala utilizes digital technology to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of 100 school children while at the same time boosting their engagement in learning.

For poor children lacking resources and opportunities, these kinds of experiences are not normally available. By providing these children with creative and fun ways to learn, we hope to spark their interest so that they will be more motivated to do their best and finish their studies well.

Reaching Out to Parents

Parents have a tremendous amount of influence on their children’s lives. For this reason we at Tiwala believe that we can more effectively help children when we reach out to their parents as well. Our small group sessions for 60 mothers aim to share with them biblical principles about life and parenting. We have seen many of these moms find hope in God and experience genuine transformation in their lives. As a result, they are taking a more active role in nourishing their children’s faith in the Lord and overall development.
