School Break Snapshots

The past two months went by quickly for the staff members of Tiwala Kids and Communities. The team took advantage of the school break period to connect meaningfully with the children and families. Although face-to-face classes were still restricted because of the lockdown, home visits and online activities were done to continue to minister to our beneficiaries.

Online Contests

To encourage Tiwala children and families to use their time at home wisely, Tiwala launched online talent contests for them. The online competitions had two categories: the children category and the family category. The themes revolved around how they can be a godly influence on others. The participants communicated the themes through different talents: original song and poem compositions, skits, song and dance numbers, and sketches/drawings. The families and kids had an enjoyable time bonding together while preparing their presentations. It was indeed a splendid opportunity to hone their talents, build self-esteem, encourage creativity, and create wholesome family time.

Cyber Safety Module and Seminar

In August, we rolled out Cyber Safety modules for 200 Tiwala kids and parents. The goal was to guide children and guardians on how to protect themselves from online risks and dangers. We loaned out digital tablets pre-loaded with lecture videos. We also conducted an online seminar to highlight biblical principles on wisely using the digital space.

Welcome Program for Scholars

Before classes started, Tiwala met with our full scholars to orient and welcome them to the scholarship program. In the said event, we gave tips on how they can do well in their studies. We also sent them home with grocery items and school supplies. Tiwala has a total of 28 full scholars in Legazpi and Manito, Albay at present.

Distribution of School Supplies

We also distributed school supplies kits to more than 200 Tiwala children before school started. The educational materials were a great help to help the kids in their distance learning studies.

Teens for Christ

When restrictions eased in August, teens were allowed to go out. The Tiwala youth maximized this opportunity by attending Teens for Christ (TFC). TFC is a Sunday youth group by our partner church, Generation Christian Fellowship. It was indeed a highlight and encouragement to the Tiwala team to see these teens take the initiative to come to church and continue to grow in the fear and knowledge of the Lord!

This pandemic has disrupted our regular operations but has also opened many opportunities to continue to serve the people here in Bicol, Philippines. We thank each one of you who pray for us and support us as we continue to build strong foundations in the lives of poor children and families. May you continue to experience the Lord’s presence, protection, provision, and power. Maraming salamat!

 Blessings,
Tiwala Kids & Communities Team
